A little bird told me

A little bird told me
Question to self .... why take a subject that is already complicated, a delicate painted metal tea light holder with birds and leaves, place it in some bright sunshine, ooh and aah! at the beautiful and mesmerising effects of the light and commence work with gusto... while doing so realise that the parts of said candle holder in shadow with a light cream local colour now look blacker than the ace of spades, and that meanwhile the sunlit parts of the dark brown table now appear to be whiter than white.. all in all, then, making a complicated subject eighty percent more confusing and then, oh then, try to make a coherent painting out of it all?!!
Funniest thing was moving the table backwards every five or ten minutes in an attempt to keep the light in the same place and ending up doing some kind of table tango all around the room! Strictly come still life!
I hope you think it was all worthwhile, for this is how I spent the last day of my thirties! This oil on canvas panel measures 28 x 28cms, if you are interested in purchasing it for yourself - you know what to do! :)

  4. Great painting. Solid separations of light and dark with the ellipse repetitions providing interest. See what age will do! Just like a fine wine you get better.

    Have a lovely birthday.

  6. A lovely painting ! I really like the viewpoint. With such a difficult subject and with changing light to deal with, I think it's a great success !!! Bravo !
